光跡: 写真、反写真、そして日本の写真史における光の役割についてー江崎礼二から北野謙まで

現在エルサレムのヘブライ大学の東アジア学科での教鞭をとっているゾーハー博士は、美術批評家、キュレーター、アーティストとしても活躍。日本の現代美術を紹介する「ポストジェンダー」展を2005年にハイファのティコティン美術館で開催、2009年に同名の書籍をCambridge Scholarsから出版。専門はヴィジュアルカルチャー、写真史、現代写真、ビデオアート、インスタレーションなど多方面におよびます。ゾーハー氏の来日にあわせ、MEMでは特別レクチャーを開催いたします。
本講義では、自然光、人工光、そして天体の光源へとカメラを向けることで、写真の本質を問う仕事をした日本の写真家たちについて考察します。これらの写真家の作品では写真的行為が、「現実」を提示し表現する手段ではなく、指標的記号としての光を記録するための仕組みとして扱われています。この作業の過程における諸問題について、19世紀の半ばから具体的な作家の事例をたどり議論していきます。参考作家・作品として、江崎礼二が写した月蝕、信伊奈亮正の日蝕、そして濱谷浩の「終戦の日の太陽」、川田喜久治 「ラスト・コスモロジー」、山崎博「HELIOGRAPHY」、伊島薫 「一つ太陽」、野口里佳 「太陽」、杉本博司 「Lightning Fields」などを取り上げます。加えて、現在展示中の北野謙の新作 「day light」 と 「watching the moon」をめぐり、北野謙も本講義に参加いたします。

“Traces of Light: Photography, Anti-Photography, and the Role of Light in the History of Japanese Photography, from Esaki Reiji to Kitano Ken”

My talk will consider Japanese photographers who directed their camera to natural, celestial and artificial light sources – an action that questions the nature of the photograph: in these images, the photographic action is presented not as a device to show and represent “reality”, but as a mechanism to record the indexical sign of light. I will discuss different phases of this process, starting as early as the mid-19th c. – from Esaki Reiji’s images of lunar eclipse, Shiina Sukemasa’s images of sun eclipse, Hamaya Hiroshi’s image of the sun, Kawada Kikuji’s “The Last Cosmology”, Yamazaki Hiroshi’s “HELIOGRAPHY”, Ijima Kaoru’s “One Sun”, Noguchi Rika’s “The Sun”, Sugimoto Hiroshi’s “Lightning Fields”, and Kitano Ken’s recent work “day light” and “watching the moon”.　-Ayelet Zohar
