Hiroko Komatsu

Hiroko Komatsu Photographer. Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1969. Since her debut in 2009, she has held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions domestically and international. From 2010 to 2011 she rented out her own gallery space, Boiler Space , and held solo exhibitions every month. In 2015 her work from the 6th Fotofestival – Mannheim Ludwigshafen Heidelberg (German Photography Festival) was selected for collection by Italy’s MAST Foundation. In 2017 she received the 43rd Ihei Kimura Award for her work The Execution of Personal Autonomy from her solo exhibition Mirror Behind Hole: Photography into Sculpture Vol. 4 Hiroko Komatsu, (2017, Gallery α M, Tokyo, Japan) and her work, The Wall, from Sanitary Bio-Preservation from the group exhibition THE POWER OF IMAGES (2017, MAST, Bologna, Italy). She lived in New York from April of 2019 to July of the same year. In 2019 she participated in DECODE/Events & Materials, The work of Art in the Age of Post-Industrial Society (2019, The Museum of Modern Art, Saitama, Japan). In February of 2021 she is planning to publish her first exhibition archive catalogue through the publisher, paper company.
