Ken Kitano’s our face series is a collection of portraits taken in workplaces, schools and places of worship from countries around the world. Kitano superimposes multiple portraits of people that he encountered in each of these places. The focal point of superimposition is the eyes of the portraits. In 1999 he started this series in Japan and has branched out to other Asian countries. This exhibition focuses on Asia and includes his works from Japan. In addition, we are featuring his photographs of Mexican murals that he has been creating since 1997 which were the catalyst for his our face series.
Concurrently the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum is presenting Contemporary Japanese Photography Vol. 10 where Kitano’s life-sized prints will be exhibited. These works are part of a series that was exhibited in Beijing’s Three Shadows Photography Art Centre.
